Qualifying ecoEnergy Retrofit Proof Guidelines
When you do your ecoEnergy Retrofits ( upgrades / renovations ), you are required to provide proof of the work or retrofits that qualify.
General Guidelines
- KEEP A COPY of ALL BILLS and INVOICES.
- Make a copy of all relevant bills and invoices for your advisor.
- Document and take pictures ( digital ) of any work ( before, during and after your retrofits ) if the work will be hidden.
- Make sure your documentation is complete ( example: a picture of 1 wall will only qualify one wall, not the whole house ).
- An advisor cannot qualify hidden work without adequate proof.
Qualified retrofits ( upgrades / renovations ) means that the retrofits meet the program guidelines and appropriate proof has been provided.
Green Home Energy Grant Application Rules and Guidelines ( based on NRCan ecoEnergy guidelines ):
- It is up to the homeowner to list and provide proof, to Green Home Energy, of your ecoEnergy Retrofits ( upgrades / renovations ) that qualify.
- The documentation must be provided to Green Home Energy at the time of the post-retrofit assessment.
- If all the appropriate documentation is not available and provided to Green Home Energy at the time of the post-retrofit assessment, Green Home Energy will give the homeowner 5days to provide all required documentation.
- Green Home Energy must and will process your application without delay in order to meet the program submission requirements.
- If all the appropriate documentation is not available within 5 days of the post-retrofit assessment, the grant application will be processed with the qualified retrofits documented and provided to Green Home Energy at the time of the post-retrofit assessment.
- The home owner may request that Green Home Energy re-submit a request for grants for retrofits that were omitted, provided adequate documentation and proof is provided to Green Home Energy.
- There is a re-submission fee of $50 to re-open and re-process your grant application update.

Replacement of Windows, Doors or Skylights with ENERGY STAR Qualified Models
The
replacement of windows, doors and skylights with models that are ENERGY
STAR qualified is eligible for an ecoENERGY Retrofit – Homes grant. Homeowners must install new windows, doors or skylights
that are ENERGY STAR qualified for their specific climate zone. Homeowners may visit the ENERGY STAR web site at energystar.gc.ca, before purchasing
new windows, doors or skylights, to ensure that the new models are
qualified for their climate zone.
Proof
of ENERGY STAR qualification for the climate zone must be shown to the
energy advisor during the post-retrofit (E) evaluation of the home.
NRCan will ONLY accept one of the following as proof of ENERGY STAR
qualification:
- The
presence of an ENERGY STAR label on all of the replacement windows,
doors or skylights indicating that they are ENERGY STAR qualified for
the house's climate zone (if the labels are removed by the installer,
the homeowner should request them as proof). To view sample ENERGY STAR
labels, go to http://oee.nrcan.gc.ca/energystar/english/consumers/sample-labels.cfm?text=N&printview=N
- A
copy of an invoice indicating the brand/product name, and the NRCan
model reference number or the manufacturer's model code, as well as the
climate zone for which the windows, doors or skylights are qualified.
With this information, the energy advisor should then consult the
ENERGY STAR web site (http://oee.nrcan.gc.ca/energystar/english/consumers/window.cfm?text=N&printview=N) to confirm that they are indeed ENERGY STAR qualified for the home's climate zone.
